We were anxious about our connection in Strasbourg, since it's the 2nd largest rail station in France. Thank goodness our train which started in Germany was about 10 minutes late. We made our connection.
Our train arrives from Germany :
We made our connection. Route is 493km in 2-hours.
We had bought lunch at the Strasbourg station to eat on the train. The train was full. We had to wedge in one of our large suitcases between us.We made it work.
The rail line map is shown above at the start. It was built in 1849-1852. An important rail line for Europe.
Paris Est (east) train station. We arrived ! Paris !!
We took a taxi to our hotel. It was amazing how our driver was able to get through a maze of streets and massive traffic jams by being forceful and squeezing between groups of cars!!
Here's some pics I took through the taxi window. Now don't ask me what these buildings are, since we just arrived, but they looked interesting enough ..
Did you notice that the weather has changed? The beautiful sunny skies that accompanied us up to now have left us. We checked into our hotel, freshened up and headed out to .. Rue Cler.
Americans in Paris ..
After a cappuccino and a coffee back at the hotel, we went back out and had dinner at a sidewalk cafe :
Tomorrow it's 'first Sunday' of the month - which means that museums are .. FREE !! We plan on visiting the Musee' D' Orsay, the Musee' De L'Orangerie, and any others we can still get to. (we'll see how busy the Musee' Du Louvre is)
Où se trouve la station de métro la plus proche?
The Rue Cler!! We stayed there. If you have time, stop in to the tea shop called Marriage Frere at the end of the block. Hope you get to spend as much time as you want at Musee d'Orsay. And in the Tuileries Garden is a small building w/ Monet's water lillys in the round.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy Monet tomorrow at Musee d'Orsay! One of my VERY favorite museums! Good luck trying to get to museums on FREE day! Glad the connections went well today. Hope the rains aren't too bad for you.
ReplyDeleteWe also stayed in the Rue Cler! Hotel Leveque on the left in your pic, above the Le Petit Cler. Great area to stay! If you don't mind going backward in time, start at the top of Musee D'Orsay, work your way down. Less crowded for the Impressionists. It rained on us too, but hard to ruin the magic of Paris.
